Coming This Fall ...
Minds On Physics (or MOPs) is a collection of interactive
questioning modules that target student understanding of basic Physics
concepts. There are 15 different modules corresponding to different
topics in Physics … like Newton’s Laws, Vectors and Projectiles, Static
Electricity, and Wave Motion.
Each module consists of short missions that center around 1-3 learning
objectives. Example missions would be Recognizing Force Types or Mass
versus Weight. Students complete a mission by correctly answering
questions. The questions require careful reading, deep thinking, and
conceptual reasoning. The missions serve as excellent sense-making
exercises that promote a deeper understanding of concepts,
relationships, and terminology.
What is Minds On Physics?
Each Minds On Physics mission consists of up to 40 questions. The
questions are organized into Question Groups and presented to students
in a random order. Students receive immediate feedback when they answer
a question. If a question is missed, a similar question from the same
Question Group will eventually be presented to the student.
Each question has a Help button that provides hints and help
specific to that question. To complete a mission, students must
correctly answer a question from each Question Group. Once all Question
Groups are mastered, the student receives a Trophy as a token of
completion.

Help is Always Near
Varied Question Types: Multiple choice, multiple select, numerical
response, multi-part, and more.
Random Question Delivery: With a bank of nearly 5000 questions and
a randomized method of question delivery, two side-by-side
students doing the same mission will have a different experience.
Challenging Questions: Carefully-crafted questions promote careful
reading and deeper understanding.
Question-Specific Help: Your tutor is here. Tap a button and
receive help that is specific to the question.
Validation of Student Work: Students are presented a Trophy screen when
a mission is completed, allowing teachers to validate astudent's
completion of a mission. This is perfect for in-class work. (The
Paid Version records the completion records in our Task Tracker
database.)
For Credit Usage Mode: Utilizes a Health Bar and Progress Bar. The
Progress Bar must increase to 100% before the Health Bar decreases to
0%. If not, you’ll be spawning a new life. You gotta know your stuff.
For Practice Usage Mode: No Health Bar. No starting over. Just
answer a question from every Question Group and you’re done. Just plain
great practice.
Paid Version: Minds On Physics is free, but the Paid Version
offers plenty of premium features you'll love.
This is our TOP PRIORITY. Between this writing (early May) and
August 1, you should see lots of content arriving on site each week.
Once the content is produced, we will publish it. You will be able to
track our progress at any time. It will be like watching a skyscraper
being built. What fun!
Our hopes are to have a large portion of the work done by August 1 and
the remainder of the work completed by Labor Day. If all goes smoothly,
our hopes will be realized. Our fingers are crossed!
For those who plan to purchase subscriptions for using MOPs with our
Task Tracker system, we hope to open up our payment system near the
beginning of August.
Minds On Physics is a FREE learning resource. Students can do MOP
missions, receive feedback, and view a Trophy screen. But their
progress isn’t saved. Their completion isn’t recorded. The PAID version
of the program offers the following premium features:
• Create classes; invite students to join.
• Assign MOP missions with due dates, point values, scoring rules,
etc.
• Easily view all questions and Question Groups in a mission.
• Don’t like a Question Group? Eliminate it from the student
experience.
• Over-ride the “miss penalty” used in For Credit mode. Create a
“gentler" MOP (or a more "hard-nosed" MOP).
• Student work can be saved mid-mission. Their completion records
are
stored in our Task Tracker database.
• View student progress and scores for any assigned MOP mission.

Help Is Always Near
The most powerful part of Minds On Physics is the opportunities it
offers learners for correction and remediation. The program is indeed
challenging … but the Question-Specific help that is provided is like
having a Tutor on your screen.
Student difficulty with the questions arises for a number of reasons.
The Help feature addresses each source of difficulty in a systematic
manner. Definitions are provided. Big concepts are discussed and
elaborated upon. Common misconceptions are identified. Effective
approaches to question scenarios are discussed. Physics formulas are
presented. By combining carefully-crafted questions and an
intelligent-delivery system with an extensive tutorial package, Minds
On Physics offers students a powerful learning tool.
