Name That Harmonic: Open-End Air Columns

The Name That Harmonic: Open-End Air Columns Concept Builder is a tool that sharpens the learner's skill at recognizing relationships between the standing wave patterns for a resonating air column and the frequencies and wavelengths of the various harmonics. There are three activities included in this Concept Builder. The first activity - ID the Pattern - provides the learner practice identifying the standing wave patterns for the first six harmonics of a resonating, open-end air column. In the second activity - Frequency - learners are given the fundamental frequency of a resonating open-end air column and must identify the standing wave pattern for a harmonic of a second frequency. In the third activity - Wavelength - learners are given the length of an open-end air column and must identify the standing wave pattern for a harmonic that has a given wavelength. Question-specific help is provided for each of the 16 situations. Use of this Concept Builder with our Task Tracker system allows teachers to track student progress.
