The Concept Checker targets student understanding of the following learning outcomes:
- The student should be able to describe how atoms gain or lose electrons in order to become an ion.
- The students should be able to relate the group number of an element to the number of valence electrons, to the number of electrons gained or lost to become an ion, and to the charge on the ion.
