Kinematic Graphing
The Kinematic Graphing Interactive is a one-dimensional motion simulator combined with graphical representations of the motion. The simulator is loaded with features. Each animated motion is accompanied by a
dot diagram. A background grid allows for measurement of distances. Users can explore the six basic motions and their accompanying graphs; the graphs offer the ability to view the slopes at any instant in time (for p-t and v-t graphs) and to view the area between the line and the axis for any time interval (for v-t graphs). Users can modify motion parameters and view the effect such changes have upon graph features. The Two Stage motion mode allows users to view the graphs for more complex motions and control the motion parameters to view the effect that changes will have upon the resulting motion and graphs. The simulator even includes a Sandbox mode that allows users a considerable degree of control over the input parameters.
Users are encouraged to open the Interactive and explore. Or if desired, The Physics Classroom has prepared a student activity for a more directed experience. The activity was designed with the intent of being used by classroom teachers with their classes. View
