Electric Field Intensity - Directions

How it Works:

The Electric Field Intensity Concept Builder is quite simple to use. You are presented with a table of numerical values. There are one or two blank cells in each row of the eight-row table. You must use your understanding of electric field and electric force in order to determine the numerical values for the blank cell. To enter a value, tap on the blank cell. This causes a Number Pad to pop up on the side of the Concept Builder. As you tap on the digits in the number pad, values are entered into the table cell. You can use the clear button (C) or the Backspace button to clear all or the last digit of your entry. To edit a different cell of the table, just tap on that cell and use the pop-up Number Pad. The cell that is being editted always appears with a Yellow background.

When you are satisfied with your entires, tap on the Check Answers button. This causes all entries to be checked for accuracy; feedback is immediate. Incorrect answers will be displayed with a Red background. Correct answes will have a Green background and be locked from future editing. Your misses are counted and contribute and contribut to your overall Health score. Once you complete your first table, your Health Score will be reported. If it is 60% or less, you will be provided a second and final table. If it is greater than 60%, then you will be given a Trophy and returned to the Progress screen.

Getting Help

You will notice that there is a Help Me button underneath the Progress Report. You should learn to use this feature of the program. It's how you can turn an exercise in answering questions into an exercise in learning. Tapping on the Help Me button will open a page with help that is specific to each task. Of course, the Help pages are only helpful if you read them. So take the time to read them. Each Help page contains four sections: a discussion of the The Basic Idea, a display of the Question your are facing (or a similar question with different numbers), a section titled "How to Think About This Situation", and a set of links to resources in our Tutorial section. You should pay attention to the section titled How to Think About This Situation. You will find what you need to know in the three or four paragraphs of this section. You will also become a better Physics student for doing that. That is, after all, the goal of such an activity as Electric Field Intensity.

Thanks for being patient with the Directions. Happy learning!
